About & disclaimer
NWBIF stands for “Not Worth Buying In Fake.” It’s the flip side of a term the watch community already uses, “NWBIG” (“Not Worth Buying In Genuine”), which describes the moment a top-tier replica seems good enough to skip the original. We take the other conclusion: if you like the look of a $10,000 watch, a fake isn’t the answer — a genuine watch from an independent brand that sells the look openly is.
NWBIF Watches does two things. It compares genuine watches from independent brands side by side with the luxury originals they’re styled after, with real prices. And it publishes journalism about the lookalike-watch world: the vocabulary, the quality tiers, the legal questions.
What NWBIF is not
NWBIF is not a marketplace. We don’t sell watches, and we never will. You buy directly from the seller. In particular:
- We do not list, broker, or link to sellers of replica or counterfeit watches. Our guides and glossary on that culture are education only.
- The “Find Your Tier” tool outputs education (which quality tier and general characteristics to understand) — never a product or seller recommendation.
- Price discussion in the culture pieces is aggregate market commentary (“budget tier tends to run $250–400”), never a live listing.
- Nothing on this site is scraped from Reddit or forum threads. Every glossary entry and article is written by a person, citing the community sources it draws from, the way a journalist covers any subculture.
The watches we compare
Every watch in our comparison tool is a genuine product sold by an openly operating brand or shop under its own name — independent homage microbrands, Seiko-based mod shops, and mainstream brands such as Seiko, Tissot, Casio and Swatch. They use real movements, and the sellers publish reviews and warranties. Some dials print part of a model name from the design they are styled after (we flag these on the listing). NWBIF does not list replica sites that sell fake brand-name watches passed off as genuine.
Every “Iconic Look” style tag is worded as a comparison (“in the style of,” “inspired by”) — never a claim that a product is, or is affiliated with, the original watch it resembles. Product photos currently come from each seller’s own public website, shown next to a reference photo of the original from that brand’s public website for comparison. Both are credited on the card, and shops will be able to submit their own photography, which replaces ours. Prices are those listed on the seller’s and the brand’s own sites on the date captured; always confirm with the seller before buying.
Sourcing
Glossary and tier content cites the communities it documents — r/RepTime, RepGeek, RWI (RepWatchInfo) and Watch Replica Guide (RWG) — the same way any reference site cites its sources. Blog analysis pieces cite published reporting (e.g. news coverage) with short, attributed quotes.
Contact
